The ambition to reveal
the quintessence of our terroirs
In the heart of the Alsatian vineyards, Domaine SOHLER Philippe is located in Nothalten, a small village on the Alsace wine road between Haut-Koenigsbourg and Mont St-Odile. It is around this small village that our Winery covers an area of 11 Ha.
The grape variety is made up of 7 Alsatian grape varieties: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, Muscat, Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner.
We benefit from a great diversity of soils: sandstone, sandstone-marly, volcanic, clay, shale, granite, limestone… Which transmit to the vines their full maturity and reveal all their complexities in our wines.
A heritage of several generations of winegrowers
Our history goes back to the 1640’s in the purest Alsatian tradition. At that time, our ancestors owned farmland for the cultivation of cereals, vines for the sale of bulk wine to the merchants of the region and animals to maintain the family effectively..
This is how our great-grandfather, Germain Steinbach, worked. In 1964, under the impulse of his son and his wife, André and Marthe Steinbach, the first bottles were marketed. Cereal crops and animal farming gradually gave way to viticulture.
In 1995, after a career in the air force, our father Philippe Sohler became a winegrower in his turn. Concerned about the environment and passionate about the functioning of the soil, he quickly put in place his beliefs for a more respectful viticulture of his environment… Christine (our mother) joined him in the 2000s.
It is now up to us to write the new pages of the domain. A new dynamic is underway, influenced by the benefits of nature and the energies of the rocks of our terroirs.
Lydie & Marine
Fruit of our practices in the vineyard and the cellar, the range of our wines is divided into four categories :
It is the expression of our traditions, the know-how of our elders. These wines reflect the purity of the fruit.
The fragmentation of our parcels allows us to express the wonderful typicity of our terroirs. These wines have the ambition to reveal the quintessence of their terroir.
These wines have the strength of their fruits, their terroirs and the ambition of the winemaker. Through aging, breeding or specific assemblages.
Our crémants are made according to the Champagne method with our local grape varieties. We favour (privilege) longer maturings to obtain fine gastronomy crémants.
